World War II Evacuation Day for Class 4
On 20th November, Class 4 at Cropwell Bishop Primary School stepped back in time to 1940 to experience life as evacuated children during World War Two.
The day began with the children being allocated to host families by the billeting officer, Mr. Ryder, just as real evacuees were. Each child was also given a job to support the war effort, reinforcing the importance of teamwork during challenging times.
Throughout the day, the children immersed themselves in various activities that brought history to life. They handled authentic wartime artefacts, explored the tight confines of an air raid shelter, and participated in an orienteering activity to identify allied and axis planes.
The students impressed everyone with their enthusiasm and historical knowledge, truly embracing the spirit of the era. This hands-on experience gave them a unique insight into the lives of children their age during World War II, making the past both tangible and memorable.
